At the North Pole, the sun is in the sky for 6 months of the year. The shamans of the Inuit tribes spoke of a place called the 'Night Garden'. This was a place between the world of the living and the 'Otherworld' of spirits. When you are about to fall asleep, it is said that the 'Lord of Dreams' takes you away on his boat to the 'Night Garden' where your dreams take place.  

This is a popular tale for Inuit mothers to tell to help their children to sleep during nights of midnight sun.

It is believed that the earliest Inuit explorers set sail in search of the night garden.
